Selena
Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation"se'lenakinta'nija'peres," 16th, 1971 - March 31st 1995) is also known as Selena, is a famous American Tejano singer. Called the "Queen of Tejano music" her contributions to music and fashion helped make her one of most popular Mexican-American entertainers from the last decade of the 20th century. Billboard magazine placed her at third place in the year 2020, on their "Greatest Latino Artists of All Time", which was based on Latin music and Latin albums. Some media outlets described her as the "Tejano Madonna" for her clothing choices. Her choices in clothing have brought her the title "Tejano Madonna" from media outlets. Quintanilla and Suzette Quintanilla. In the 1980s, she was regularly criticised and refused bookings at various venues in Texas because she performed Tejano music--a male-dominated music genre. The acclaim she received grew after she received the Tejano Music Award as Female Vocalist-of-the Year in 1987. The award was won nine times. She was signed to EMI Latin in 1989. Her debut album was self-titled and released in the year following. Her brother was her principal music producer and writer. Entre a Mi Mundo (1992) peaked at number 1 in the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums Chart for eight consecutive months. The album's commercial success earned music critics the right to call it the "breakthrough" recording of her career. "Como la Flor" was one of the album's singles, became her most loved track. Live! (1993) won the award for Best American/Mexican Album at the 1994 Grammy Awards, becoming the first recording by a female Tejano artist to receive this honor. In 1994, she came out with Amor Prohibido, which became one of the top-selling Latin albums sold in the United States. The album was widely praised for having been the cause of Tejano music's first commercially viable era and it became one of the most sought-after Latin music subgenres of the time.
